If you are a note taker this free service is for you!Evernote

Evernote is an online note taking, storing and searching service that is simply amazing!

There are so many options available I’ll try to overview each of them below. I’ve been using Evernote for a couple of years now and I’m amazed at how much better my notes are organized!

First you visit Evernote.com and register for a free account, no credit card or payment required.CaptureAnything

Next download the desktop application for Mac, PC or Linux and setup the login/password.

You are now ready to create a note in a “word processor type” window which allows bold, italic, underline and more. You can create numbered and un-numbered lists. If you have an iPad or tablet you can use a pen to write notes directly into Evernote.

Each note can be tagged with keyword tags and you can create unlimited notebooks. It’s like the old days of buying a spiral notebook for each topic in your life and only putting notes in that notebook for that topic.

So far you may not be too excited but you notes are created locally, stored online and you can access them from a web browser or any other computer or mobile phone or mobile device! Search across all notebooks by keyword to find any note!AccessAnywhere

In no particular order, here are the really amazing options!

Drag PDF and Word documents into Evernote. Move/archive your old files from your computer to Evernote online storage.

Email notes into Evernote. Each account is given a super secret email address where you simply forward your emails and they are stored in Evernote. You can then edit and move the notes around to other notebooks.

At our office we have a large multi-purpose scanner which sends to an email. I’ve setup my Evernote email so I can high-speed scan files into Evernote.

Share notes with other users. You can share notes with family, friends or business associates.Find things fast

OCR PDF documents! Object Character Recognition reads each of your PDF scanned files and creates a text version to make it easy for searching and more! I’m amazed how a scanned file sent to Evernote by email is found later when I search for a keyword and it’s a hand written word!

Evernote for Android, Blackberry or iPhone! Now you can type a note, take a picture or record a voice message in your phone and have it saved to Evernote!

There are numerous companies creating software/hardware solutions to work directly with Evernote. You can get scanners to work directly with Evernote and many other ideas! View them all right here: http://www.evernote.com/about/trunk/

Site memory is a service you can add to your website to allow visitors to clip or store you website information into their Evernote account! This site and this post has site memory setup for saving this article or any others in our website!

Here’s some other ideas directly from the Evernote site:

Put your thoughts, ideas, inspiration, and things to remember all in one place. Use Evernote for work, for play, and for everything that’s noteworthy. Here are a few suggestions:

  • Snap a photo of a business card with your phone, and have an easy way to store and access contacts.
  • Capture plane tickets and confirmation numbers, hotel invoices, and receipts for your expense reports.
  • Get inspired. Keep a file of anything cool you want to buy for yourself or as a gift, whether it’s online or out in the real world.
  • Keep notes from your meetings all in one place. Take a picture of a whiteboard and you’ll be able to find it later.
  • Plan your next trip. Clip web pages, maps, and itineraries. Capture sights, sounds, tastes, and anything else.
  • Research web sites and clip pages directly from your browser.
  • Keep a record of your favorite wines by snapping a photo of the label when you find one you like.
  • Remember the things you were supposed to remember. Create to-do lists, jot down random thoughts, leave a voice memo, and more.
